Update: Deadline to Complete MSP Information via BAESM Extended to Sept. 16 (1-150 Groups)

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) has begun data collection efforts for Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) information, which is required by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Beginning May 26, we began only collecting this data from renewing groups via Blue Access for EmployersSM (BAE). Requests to update group MSP information through BAE were primarily sent via email last week. However, if a valid email address is not on file, an outbound phone call may have been used instead. MSP information is required by Sept. 16, 2016

New groups are required to provide their MSP information via a paper form included with their initial application paperwork.

MSP Data Collection FAQs

Who Is impacted?
Renewing fully insured and ASO employer groups with 1 to 150 employees who have not completed the 2016 Employer Acknowledgement form prior to Aug. 13 will need to provide this information. Groups who have already provided their 2016 information prior to Aug. 13 will not be asked to provide it again.

It is the responsibility of the employer group health plan to update BCBSTX of any employee count changes throughout the year.

When Will BCBSTX Contact Affected Groups?
Communications began in late May. Periodic communications (emails or calls made to accounts with invalid or missing email addresses) are being sent to groups that have not responded prior to the Sept. 16 deadline.

When Is the MSP Information Due?
The last day to complete the MSP information through BAE has been extended to Sept. 16, 2016.

Why Has the Date of Completion Been Extended?
When some groups tried logging in to BAE, they experienced some system issues. These issues have been resolved.

Can Producers Provide the MSP Information on BAE for Their Groups?
Yes. If you have access to your groups’ BAE accounts, you may complete the MSP information on their behalf.
