STAR Kids Added as Line of Business to HEDIS® 2018

The Medicaid STAR Kids program has been added to the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) 2018 Medical Record Review. Thus, you may be receiving requests for members in the STAR Kids population, in addition to STAR and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

The measures being audited for STAR Kids are:

  • AWC – Adolescent Well Care
  • CIS – Childhood Immunization Status
  • WCC – Weight Assessment Counseling for Children/Adolescents
  • W34 – Well Child Visits Within the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Years of Life

As you may recall, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas has been providing service to the disabled population of children up to 20 years of age (STAR Kids) since November 1, 2016. To be eligible for STAR Kids benefits, each member must have at least one of the following:

  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Youth Empowerment Services (YES) waiver
  • Services through the Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS)
  • Other services

Each STAR Kids member has a service coordinator that assesses, assists and facilitates needs and services on their behalf. Regardless of the chronic health conditions these members may have, they are still required to have a Texas Health Steps (THSteps) exam. Review the current Periodicity Schedule and the required components of the THSteps Well Child Visit exam.

As always, we appreciate your cooperation, timeliness and the excellent care you provide to our members.
