BCBSTX Revises Small Group Compensation for Producers

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) is announcing commission changes for our producers selling in our fully insured small group (1-50) market.

As a customer-owned health insurer, our highest priority is placed on our commitment to solve the affordability of care for our customers. We have and will continue investing in new programs and networks that focus on lowering the cost of care. We have also invested in new technology, process improvement and infrastructure changes necessary to lower our administrative costs.

We remain committed to our producer distribution channel and continue investing in new processes, tools and technology to help you better manage and build your business. As we assess this segment of our business and look ahead with affordability in mind, we have determined that a small change in producer commission is necessary.

Therefore, in the 1-50 small group health market, commission rates are being reduced by one quarter of one percent, from 4.5 percent of premium to 4.25 percent. The new compensation rate will be applied to new group sales with effective dates on or after Jan. 1, 2018, and upon renewal on or after Jan. 1, 2018. Commission rates for all small group major medical policies are affected, except for transitional policies, grandfathered policies and Blue Balance FundedSM ASO programs.

We value our producer relationships and they continue to be vital to our business. We thank you for your steadfast partnership and support.
