What’s new with the Special Beginnings® Maternity Program?

Blue Cross Community Centennial members are able to take advantage of our
maternity care coordination program, Special Beginnings. This program is supplemental to medical care – offering personal, confidential care coordination to pregnant members through their entire pregnancy. Experienced in obstetrics, care coordinators assist members in understanding and managing their pregnancy in order to achieve good health for mother and baby.

New to Special Beginnings is the NICU Care Coordination Program. Care coordinators can help guide families through the NICU journey and the baby’s first year.

Members enrolled in the Special Beginnings Program receive personal phone calls and risk assessment interviews. Moderate to high-risk pregnant members will be followed by a registered nurse. Members have access to the 24/7 Nurseline, educational materials, and care coordination staff.

Members have the opportunity to receive Value-Added Services and Centennial Rewards. The list below identifies the items available and criteria to fulfill in order to receive the incentive.

$100 in Reward Points/Credits
  • Enrollment in the Special Beginnings Program
  • Registration in the Centennial Rewards Program

Infant Car Seat
  • Initial prenatal visit occurs during the first trimester or within 42 days of enrollment in Blue Cross Community Centennial Health Plan
  • Complete at least eight prenatal visits during the pregnancy

Portable Crib
  • Initial prenatal visit occurs during the first trimester or within 42 days of enrollment in Blue Cross Community Centennial Health Plan
  • Complete at least eight prenatal visits during the pregnancy
  • Enroll in the Special Beginnings Program
  • Participate in the Safe Sleep Program provided by the Special Beginnings Care Coordinators

Diaper Program
  • Complete the postpartum visit between 21 and 56 days after delivery

Please encourage your pregnant patients to join the Special Beginnings Program. Joining the program early in pregnancy will provide support during the pregnancy, delivery and into the postpartum period.
