Consumers Reveal Top Five Questions About Affordable Care Act

With open enrollment for the Health Insurance Marketplace just days away, data from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) suggests that consumers still have many questions about what the Affordable Care Act (ACA) means for them and their families. Through more than 5,783 calls to BCBSIL’s customer service center over the past four months, we’ve identified that the top five most frequently asked questions by consumers are:

1.   Cost of new plans
2.   Medicare/Medicaid impact
3.   COBRA coverage
4.   Need to change current individual policies
5.   Pre-existing conditions

In response to these and other questions about health care reform, BCBSIL has launched ReformandYouIL.com. The site offers video tutorials, online seminars and fact sheets in English and Spanish. Consumers will find answers to questions about employer coverage, how to enroll for coverage through the online Marketplace, and how an individual’s health care options may be impacted by the law.

The site also features Ask Ivy, a virtual navigator that helps guide consumers to pages where they can find the information they need to answer their health reform questions.

BCBSIL is also engaging with consumers through mobile devices and social media to help improve health literacy with Twitter, Facebook and YouTube  pages featuring videos, health tips, games, community activities and feedback opportunities to help build consumer awareness of health issues and benefits options. To learn more about these issues and BCBSIL health plans, please visit ReformandYouIL.com, or call your BCBSIL account representative.
