HMO Members Will Follow a Different Procedure to Get Treatment for Substance Use Disorder

Starting Jan. 1, 2014, HMO members in Illinois will be required to receive a referral from their primary care providers (PCPs) in order to receive treatment for substance abuse, also known as substance use disorder. Members will no longer contact Magellan Health Services to receive a referral to a specialist.

Members who call the toll-free number for Magellan Health Services will hear an automated recording directing them to call their PCPs. For more information about this change, please contact your Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois representative.
