BlueScriptSM Transition to Make Obtaining Rx Drugs More Convenient for Members

Effective on or after Jan. 1, 2014, when accumulators reset to zero, a change will be made that may make obtaining prescription drugs more convenient for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) members with BlueScript.*

Currently, these members’ prescription drug claims are processed through BlueScript. Beginning on or after Jan. 1, the Integrated BlueScript process will apply for pharmacy claims. This transition to Integrated BlueScript does not affect member benefits, only the way prescription drug claims are processed.

Integrated BlueScript allows members’ prescription drug claims to be processed directly through our pharmacy benefit manager, Prime Therapeutics (Prime). Members will only be required to pay applicable deductible and coinsurance amounts at the pharmacy. There is no longer a need for member reimbursements, when prescriptions are filled through a contracting pharmacy.

Notifications and new ID cards will be sent to impacted subscribers prior to the change. Members should present their new ID cards at the pharmacy when filling a prescription on or after the effective date to help ensure they are paying the appropriate amount. Members should continue to use their current ID cards until the effective date.

* Most groups will transition on Jan. 1, 2014, with a few exceptions. Also, BlueScript groups/members with accumulators based on bodies vs. dollar amounts (Family Deductible/Family Out of Pocket maximum) and/or an HCA BlueEdge SelectSM or BlueEdge Select DirectSM product will not be transitioned at this time. Contact your BCBSIL representative for more information.

Prime Therapeutics LLC is a pharmacy benefit management company. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) contracts with Prime Therapeutics to provide pharmacy benefit management and other related services. In addition, contracting pharmacies are contracted through Prime Therapeutics. The relationship between BCBSIL and contracting pharmacies is that of independent contractors. BCBSIL, as well as several other independent Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans, has an ownership interest in Prime Therapeutics.
