BCBSIL Hits the Streets this Summer
Supports Multiple Community Events

This summer Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) and employee volunteers are taking part in a variety of community events. Look for volunteers clad in blue at these events.

Float on by
Chicago’s parade season is underway. Following the June 15 Puerto Rican Day parade, you will find BCBSIL’s float at:

  • Chicago Pride parade, June 30
  • Disability Pride parade, July 20
  • Bud Billiken parade, Aug. 10
  • Mexican Independence parade, Sept. 14

Building Community Playgrounds
BCBSIL partners with KaBOOM! to build playgrounds and give children a safe place to play. As part of our Healthy Kids, Healthy Families initiative, BCBSIL has helped build 21 playgrounds across Illinois. This year, four new playgrounds will rise:

  • Catalyst Maria School, Chicago Lawn – July 20
  • Sojourn Shelter, Springfield – July 27
  • John Mackler Homes and Sunrise Apartments (Housing Authority of Cook County),  Chicago Heights – Aug. 24
  • To be determined, Quincy – Sept. 14

KaBOOM! is a national non-profit dedicated to saving play with the ultimate goal of helping to create places to play within walking distance of every child in America.

Caring and Cooking
More than 170 BCBSIL employee volunteers recently participated in the 20th Annual Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon. As the largest single day of community service in Chicago, the Serve-a-thon beautifies and uplifts school classrooms and libraries, playgrounds and parks in underserved communities.

Once again, BCBSIL sponsored the Health & Wellness Pavilion at the Real Men Cook for Charity Father's Day celebration. Held June 16, this annual event celebrates fathers and father-figures.
