SelecTEMP®' Refund Policy [Individual Markets]

Effective June 1, 2009, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois amended the administrative procedures to support cancellations of the SelecTEMP plan during a benefit period. The cancellation is effective in the upcoming month based on the date the cancellation request is received. The balance of the premium will be refunded to the member.

Example: The SelecTEMP policy is effective January 1 for six months and a member requests cancellation on April 15. The policy will cancel as of May 1 and the premium for two months will be refunded to the member.

Reinstatements will be honored as long as the reinstatement request is received prior to the effective date of the cancellation. In the above example, if the reinstatement request is received by April 30, the request will be honored. If the request is received May 1 or later, the member will have to reapply according to the “subsequent benefit period” provisions.
