Blue Access Tip: How to Begin Using Online Bill Payment [Group Markets]

Did you know that your groups can pay their Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois bill online in Blue Access® for Employers? There are many benefits to Online Bill Payment:

  • It's a simple and secure way to review and pay bills.
  • There’s no paper to get lost or delayed in the mail.
  • Your groups’ payments will be processed quickly and accurately.
  • Your groups will receive e-mails and alerts to keep them up-to-date.
  • Your groups will always have full documentation and audit trails of their payment activities.
  • Unlike automatic debit, your groups are in control of when to pay their bills.

In order to be eligible for Online Bill Payment, your account must be a premium billed account or an ASO account that receives a weekly, bi-weekly or semi-weekly invoice on Blue Access for Employers.

How Do I Begin Using Online Payment?

  1. Log on to Blue Access for Employers at www.bcbsil.com/employer.
  2. Click on Online Payment* in the Billing section on the right-hand side of your screen.
  3. Select Create Payment Profile in the menu on the left hand side.
  4. Review the Online Payment Terms of Use and click I Agree if you accept the terms.
  5. Enter your Bank Routing Number, Account Number and Account Type. If you receive more than one bill, you can assign different accounts to pay each bill. Click Submit to start the verification process.
  6. There is a 10-day waiting period for the banking networks to validate your account information. At the end of the waiting period, we will send an e-mail to remind you that you can now pay online. 
  7. Use the Request Payment and Release Payment options to submit your payments to us.

*If the Online Bill Payment link does not appear on your screen, contact your broker or account executive.

Once your groups have enrolled in Online Bill Payment, they will receive e-mails to let them know when their bills are available to view in Blue Access for Employers.
